The counterfactual decomposition technique popularized by Blinder (1973, Journal of Human Resources, 436–455) and Oaxaca (1973, International Economic Review, 693–709) is widely used to study mean outcome differences between groups. For example, the technique is often used to analyze wage gaps by sex or race. There has been a surge of methodologies extending the Oaxaca (1973) and Blinder (1973) decomposition of differences at the mean to decomposition of the whole distribution. Juhn et al. (1993, JMP hereafter) have proposed a simple extension of the Oaxaca decomposition by taking account of the distribution of residuals.

Finally, Blinder–Oaxaca decomposition analysis was conducted to explore the factors contributing to the change in the prevalence of children with incomplete vaccination status (zero-dose, under-immunized, and dropout) over time. Details of the conceptual framework of Blinder–Oaxaca decomposition can be found in the paper by Jann (2008) .Oaxaca-Blinder type decomposition analysis was then applied to examine whether contextual or compositional explanations accounted for changes in the distribution between time periods. We found that changes in the nature of relationships observed by our coefficient values accounted for the majority of the difference in BMI at the 90th percentile ...The Blinder-Oaxaca decomposition method has been used to examine the wage gap between men and women in the United States to further assess the average of various factors in the variables as well ...Nonlinear Decomposition Code – Robert Fairlie. I created a decomposition technique for logits, probits and other nonlinear models based on the linear Blinder-Oaxaca decomposition technique. The decomposition technique is useful for explaining the causes of racial and gender inequality in outcomes. Original Application: Fairlie, Robert W. 1999.

3.1 Oaxaca-Blinder Decomposition Method. In the standard OB wage decomposition, at first two separate earnings equations are used to estimate the wage gap decomposition. The underlying assumption is that the two groups of interest vary both in their characteristics and in the rewards to those characteristics. Finally, the association between tooth brushing and socio-economic status of the study population was considered using the Oaxaca-Blinder decomposition method and well-conceptualized measures of socio-economic inequality in health.

I'm running the "split" function for the oaxaca command to assess how much of the unexplained portion of the wage gap between two groups is due to the "in favor of group 1" vs. "against group 2".
